APRIL 2010

Calief Nelsen is a 5th Grade student at School 51 Build Academy where he is an Honor Roll Student with an average of just under 94 for all three marking periods so far this year.  He is a thoughtful student who is admired and respected by his classmates and teachers alike because of his easy going nature.  Calief is always willing to help other students with their problems or lend a hand to anyone who needs assistance.

MARCH 2010

Avery Brown is a fifth grade B+ student at Tapestry Charter School who is an extremely hard in everything he does whether it is school related work or in any of his athletic pursuits.  He loves music and is an avid football and basketball player.  Avery’s leadership abilities are evident not by the things he says but by the examples he sets for his classmates, teammates, and neighborhood friends. He is well-respected by teachers and students alike.

FEBRUARY 2010

Philomena is a 5th Grade student at City Honors School 56, who, in addition to being an above average student, is involved in a number of extra-curricular activities including being a member of the Book Club.  She enjoys playing the violin, swimming, ice skating and rides horses in the summer.  Philomena is well respected by teachers and students alike, gets along with everyone, and is always ready and willing to help others or to participate in activities to help her school. Recently, Philomena and her homeroom class organized and participated in a “Pajama Day” at school to raise money for City Honors’ new Library.

JANUARY 2010

Christopher is a fifth grade student at Herman Badillo Bilingual Academy is described by his teachers as being of solid character and maintaining outstanding behavior. He is well-mannered at all times and is successful academically. Christopher is eager to learn new things and participates in the afterschool extended learning program.  His best leadership quality is his willingness to help others.

DECEMBER 2009

Anthony is an honors student in the fifth at D’Youville Porter Campus School #3. In fact, he has been on the honor roll every semester that he has attended School #3.  He is friendly and outgoing, follows directions, and abides by school rules and regulations.  He is respected by teachers and students alike for his well-mannered behavior and ability to get along with everyone.

MAY 2009

Jerri Ann Orfano is a Sixth Grader at 79th Street School in Niagara Falls New York. She is an honor roll student in school and active in a number of activities such as band and chorus. Jerri is also quite an athlete playing softball for the Diamond Girls and is a member of the school swim team. However, Jerri is most recognized for helping around the school after class by doing special cleaning assignments and decorating classrooms or hallways, helping or tutoring other students, or doing whatever is necessary to help make her school a better place.

APRIL 2009

Sarah Moléfe is a sixth grader at Enterprise Charter School and is described by her teacher as “a leader in the classroom.” She always sets a good example for the other students and is always available to assist them if they need help with something. She is extremely polite and interacts well with all adults as well as her fellow students. An above average student, Sarah is a member of the Enterprise baseball team.

MARCH 2009

Khoa “Kevin” Le is a recently arrived student from Vietnam who is still learning English but has shown tremendous academic skills in math and science. Despite his language limitations, Kevin enjoys writing and learning new things, and has become a leader in his English as a Second Language class by helping other students with their vocabulary and writing.  He has expressed interest in becoming a doctor, a lofty goal but one he may achieve because of his academic abilities and hard work.

Moses

FEBRUARY 2009

Moses Jones, a 6th grader at The Frederick Law Olmsted School at Kensington, was raised in Germany and is new to the school this year. An above average student who puts great effort into his schoolwork, Moses is also a member of his swim team. He is a happy, positive individual with a kind caring disposition who helps neighbors by raking leaves and shoveling snow, and who also helped plant trees in Delaware Park.

Cayla is a pupil in Mrs Hall’s 5th Grade Class at the Dr. Lydia T. Wright School of Excellence.  Her Principal, Mrs. Mary Jo Conrad describes Cayla as a “Model Student – willing to help others succeed, exhibits a peasant and cooperative attitude, strives for excellence, and maintains a 94 grade point average.”
